Stiff - The Curious Life of Human Cadavers Having received a gift card from Borders from my family on my birthday, I was looking for something different to read, having recently completed Pat Conroy's autobiographical My Losing Season, chronicling his senior year of college as the captain of the Citadel basketball team. This book Stiff caught my eye, and as I circled the store, it remained the most promising choice.
Cleverly addressed by author Mary Roach, Stiff is an interesting look at what happens with human remains -- the ones we don't send off with a proper Christian burial, that is.
Gross Anatomy, Human Decay, Crash Testing, Criminal Forensics, Cannibalism (ick), Crucifixion and more -- Roach offers a fascinating and direct examination of the issues and purposes involving cadaver research.
Listed on many "Best Books of 2003" lists, It is one of the most interesting and amusing books you'll read this year.
On a scale of five, I rate Stiff a four.
