WSJ - OpinionJournal: "By the normal rules for choosing a vice president, Mr. Edwards doesn't add much. He doesn't guarantee victory in his home state, North Carolina, which George W. Bush won by 13 points in 2000. He doesn't bring ideological or gender balance to the ticket, though he provides a jot of geographical breadth, for whatever that's worth. As a one-term senator, he offers meager national experience, in sharp contrast to Vice President Cheney. Mr. Edwards might have produced unity among Democrats except they're already united in a crusade to oust Mr. Bush." - Fred Barnes
I just returned from a weekend camping trip with my wife's family in Lake Tahoe, and this was a topic of conversation over the campfire on Friday night. One would think John Edwards might have added a spark to Kerry's poll standings, but according to a recent AP news story, the addition of Edwards as the VP on the Kerry ticket is a bust. The announcement of Al Gore for Bill Clinton's initial presidential campaign, and the announcement of Joe Lieberman for Al Gore's campaign resulted in a double-digit bounce in the polls at the time. Not here.
