DallasNews.com: "California Steamin"
You gotta love those Californians. What they lack in common sense, good taste and sound judgment in presidential politics, they make up for in sheer entertainment value.
Take the current ruckus over what apparently seems to be, in the Golden State, new fighting words: girlie men.
Believe it or not, that's what Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called Democratic lawmakers in Sacramento. Gov. Schwarzenegger lifted the lighthearted insult from an old Saturday Night Live skit in which a pair of Teutonic weightlifters - dubbed Hans and Franz - used it to mock anyone they found lacking in the muscle department.
The governor, upset at Democrats for holding up the budget process, was taking a poke at lawmakers who, in his words, 'don't have the guts' to tell their constituents that they really represent special interests like unions and trial lawyers.
And, as if to confirm the jibe, the Democrats are throwing a hissy fit over the comments. Unamused party leaders wasted no time in terming the remark 'sexist' and 'homophobic,' and demanding an apology.
Here we go again. It's no wonder that the far left has become a caricature to so much of this country. These people need to get over it. Gov. Schwarzenegger's comments might not be your cup of tea, but they certainly aren't an attack on an entire segment of society. At most, they were harmless attempts at humor.
The humorlessness of these crybaby Californians is really funny. Do folks like outraged State Assembly Speaker Adrian Nunez, who called the comment 'beneath' the governor, have any idea how silly they look?
I just have to shake my head and laugh at the Democrat's manufactured "outrage." Democrat State Senator Don Perata was on the Today show, and tried his best to appear calm and collected in front of a national audience, "disagreeing" with the Governor's choice of words. 45 minutes later, I heard him ranting and raving on a local Sacramento radio station, blasting Arnold for his "callousness". I later heard SF Assemblyman Mark Leno, the head of the Assembly Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Caucus (yes, really) calling the Governor a homophobe.
The funny thing that no one is pointing out is that while the Democrats accuse the Governor of name calling, they're not denying his accusation. This is because they really are beholden to special interests like trial lawyers and labor unions, and they lack the guts to stand up for what is in the best interests of the people of California. In a refreshing breath of non-politically correct speech -- the same non-politically correct speech these Democrats use themselves outside of the eye of the media -- the Governor communicated with the people of California.
And they cheered him for it.
Keep it up, Governor!
p.s. to Senator John Burton -- watching your televised comments to the press, when asked if you called the Governor with your complaint, you said "What am I supposed to do, call and say 'Hi, this is the scumbag girlie man.'"
Funny, the Governor didn't call you guys scumbags. I wonder if you were just letting him know which specific girlie man you were, seeing that there are so many of you in the Assembly.
