OpinionJournal - John Fund on the Trail: Blame McCain-Feingold.
An excellent summary of how the 527 groups are responsible for all the negative campaining we've seen this campaign season.
President Bush has denounced -- again -- all 527 ads, even those supporting him by the Swift Vets.
So why hasn't John Kerry denounced 527 ads? Why hasn't he denounced George Soros' $15M in 527 contributions to MoveOn.org and America Coming Together (and pardon me, what as asinine name for a group.)?
Oh, that's right. They've funded over $60M in attack ads against President Bush. . . And Kerry's worried over a $1M ad that blows a hole in his strategy to show he's a "warrior," diverting attention from his 20 years of failed policy positions. That's why he's taking a page from Edwards' playbook, and is suing to stop the SwiftVet ads, claiming links to the ad funders with George Bush shows collaboration in the ads, which is against 527 laws.
Let's look at Kerry's people: From the linked article - "Indeed, for all the effort that has gone into trying to establish a link between the Swift Boat anti-Kerry ads and such Bush aides as Karl Rove, the even closer connections between liberal 527s and the Kerry campaign have gone largely unremarked. No Bush 527 has donors who have given nearly as much as the millions that Mr. Soros or investment analyst Peter Lewis have given to liberal groups. Jim Jordan, a former Kerry campaign manager, is now the spokesman for the Media Fund, the biggest liberal 527. Zack Exley, the former Internet director of MoveOn.org, now performs the same tasks for the Kerry campaign."
Where is the media outrage? Apparently, it's only to be found in the WSJ. . .
