Kerry spins Superman's death into cheap political stunt.

Yahoo! News

John Edwards' dumb-ass statement that 'When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk. Get up out of that wheelchair and walk again' apparrently resonated with his widow, further politicizing Reeve's death.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sen. John Kerry on Thursday accused President Bush of slowing scientific advancement after earning a special endorsement from the widow of actor Christopher Reeve, a proponent of the embryonic stem cell research on which the president has placed limits.

"The American people deserve a president who understands that when America invests in science and technology, we can build a stronger economy and create jobs for the 21st century," Kerry said during a campaign rally. "But George Bush has literally ... turned his back on the spirit of exploration and discovery."

Of course, Kerry is speaking of the same president, who only 10 months ago announced a far-reaching initiative to reinvigorate NASA with a plan that truly embraces the spirit of exploration and discovery.

BUSH SPACE INITIATIVE

•Spend $12 billion on new space exploration plan over next five years. $1bn will be new money, the rest reallocated from existing NASA programs.
•Retire shuttle program by 2010
•Develop new manned exploration vehicle
•Launch manned mission to moon between 2015 and 2020
•Build permanent lunar base as "stepping stone" for more ambitious missions
•Complete commitments to International Space Station by 2010

As for John Kerry's comments -- they are far from the truth.

As usual.
