SF Chronicle: It was a busy day for Bill and Hill in SF yesterday. While Bill was autographing away on the left coast, Hillary was telling Nob Hill liberals that the tax cuts that have helped to stimulate America's economy will be overturned if Kerry wins the White House.
"'Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you,' Sen. Clinton said. 'We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.' "
This is evidence how dangerously out-of-touch the Democratic leadership is. With a recovery underway (and largely due to President Bush's tax cuts), 1.4 million jobs have been created since last August. Consumer spending is up. Home ownership is up. More businesses are investing. Indicators of manufacturing activity are higher than at any time during the last 20 years. Stock market wealth has increased by more than $3 trillion over the past year. Because of the continuing effects of President Bush's tax relief, workers will continue to keep more of what they earn in the future, and small businesses will be better able to invest and grow.
While Hillary and Kerry are quick to spout that America's economy has, overall, lost jobs since the start of the decade, the vast majority of these job losses are cyclical in nature, not structural, according to the Economist. Now that the economy is recovering after the recession of 2001 (Remember 9/11 Mrs. Clinton?), as well as the job picture, the Dems want to dismantle the recovery.
It makes me wonder if most of these Nob Hill liberal millionaires earned their money, or if they inherited it. I suspect it was the latter, because I honestly cannot understand why anyone would choose to give $10K to support the candidacy of politicians who blatantly promise to take more of their money out of their pockets "for the common good."
Incredible. And unfathomable.
Not that I'm in the income bracket of these Nob Hill elites, but I'd prefer to keep my money, and make my own decisions about whom to give it to for the "common good." Big Brothers & Big Sisters. WEAVE. The Red Cross. I've given to these organizations, and will continue to support them as long as I'm able. But I guess the Dem's plan is if they make it harder for me to contribute, they will have to come to the rescue with more government programs, paid for by my tax dollars.
I'd rather exercise my philanthropic judgment instead.
